As a long-time admirer of a wide spectrum of artists’ works—from fine art, illustration art, and comic art—John Fleskes felt many artists had slipped into obscurity, or lacked the means to gain exposure. In answer to this dilemma, John Fleskes founded Flesk Publications in 2002. His first release, Franklin Booth: Painter with a Pen, was an obvious choice for the first title. “Ever since my first introduction to Franklin Booth’s art, it has always moved me. My desire to do a Booth book came before my thoughts of starting a publishing company. Eventually I came to the conclusion that if someone else wasn't going publish a book on Booth, then I would. His pen work is legendary among artists, but is generally unknown to the public. I feel his work appeals to just about anyone, and would be a welcome addition to art connoisseur's libraries, as well as to the general public.” A two-edition set on the works of Joseph Clement Coll followed: The Art of Adventure and A Legacy in Line in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Fleskes spent two years researching and assembling these editions. In 2004 Fleskes expanded his book line by inviting a team of artists, designers, and production assistants to help grow Flesk Publications. Artist Steve Rude was the first to come on board, granting permission for Flesk Publications to create a volume of his work. In addition, we contracted with Brian M. Kane to publish his James Bama book. Mark Schultz soon followed. We developed a plan to re-introduce his work to the collector’s market. Flesk Publications has been moving at a sustained and controlled pace. Our goal is to continue promoting the arts through quality collections. Focus will not be limited to any one genre or field. We remain open to different types of art books whether they cater to illustration, fine art, movie production art, graphic novels, comic art, or photography.
