The Art of Arthur Adams is the most comprehensive retrospective ever compiled on this celebrated comic artist. His detailed style is showcased by highlighting his singular voice, which has garnered the praise of his peers and fans worldwide. Arthur has helped to introduce some the greatest pop-culture characters in comics to a wider audience through his imaginative renditions.

A hand-picked selection of his art spans forty years and highlights a variety of comic-book covers and interior pages from each phase of his career. The pieces showcased here are from major and independent publishers as well as creator-owned projects. Examples cover a chronological display dating from his first samples, while trying to break into the business, to Arthur’s latest cover drawings. Each image is accompanied by personal anecdotes that enhance the visuals. In addition, this book includes a historical essay revealing the artist’s journey. Never-before-seen preliminary art and pencils for his published covers also are included. This book was designed for the artist’s most-seasoned fans but also serves as an introduction to those experiencing his work for the first time.

About Arthur Adams

A self-taught artist, Arthur Adams became a fan favorite at the age of 19 when he left a job making pizzas to pencil the critically acclaimed Longshot limited series, written by Ann Nocenti and published in 1985 by Marvel Comics. He has been in high demand ever since, as his highly distinctive and detailed artwork gained Arthur considerable popularity among fans and editors. He. has enjoyed being a cover artist as well as both the artist and sometime writer for miniseries, specials and annuals.

In his career, Arthur has had acclaimed runs on many titles, including The Authority, Danger Girl, Excalibur, Fantastic Four, Gen 13, Guardians of the Galaxy, Godzilla, Gumby, Hulk, Jonni Future, Longshot, New Mutants, Ultimate X, Uncanny X-Men, Vampirella and X-Factor, to name a few. He also launched his creator-owned series Monkeyman and O'Brien in 1993 with Dark Horse Comics’ “Legend” imprint.

Adams has provided cover images for issues of the Amazing Spider-Man, Appleseed, Avengers Classic, Batman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Classic X-Men, Fear Itself: The Fearless, JLA: Scary Monsters, Red Sonja, Strange Academy, Ultraman, The Walking Dead and X-Men: Blue among other titles. In addition to his work in comic books, he also has produced popular commercial art, including numerous illustrations for trading cards, posters, shirts and various other comics-related merchandise. Outside the field of comics, Adams has provided illustrations for various magazines, movies and videogames. He also has worked in toy design, packaging art and even a series of X-Men-themed Campbell Soup cans.
